Interesting places to visit in Ireland
Ireland is one of the most interesting tourist destinations in Europe. It is a country with a majestic history,
vibrant culture and beautiful nature. Despite its small size, Ireland offers travelers a variety of interesting
sights: ancient castles, mysterious ancient monasteries and natural wonders.
Ireland's most popular attraction is undoubtedly the Moher Cliffs. The image of these majestic and incredibly
beautiful cliffs is most often found on postcards and travel guides to Ireland. The Cliffs of Moher are located
on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean in County Clare, not far from the village of Lisconore. They stretch for 8
kilometers along the Atlantic and rise above the ocean at the highest point at 214 meters. There are two trails
along the cliffs. The official one is 18 kilometers long and is located a little farther from the cliffs. The
trail passes by the Visitor Center, which hosts the Atlantic Edge exhibit. Nearby are two cafes and several
souvenir stores.
In the southwestern part of Ireland in County Kerry is Killarney National Park, famous for its picturesque
scenery. At the center of the park is Macross House, a mansion built in the 19th century. It was once visited by
Queen Victoria, whose visit it took almost 10 years for the mansion's owners to prepare for. The mansion is
surrounded by a beautiful garden, which you can walk around on foot or take a ride in an antique carriage. There
are several hiking trails through Killarney National Park that pass picturesque lakes and mountains. The
highlight of the western part of the park is an 11-kilometer drive over the narrow and rocky Dunlow Pass, carved
by glaciers at the end of the Ice Age.
Glendaloch is a valley in County Wicklow, in the east of Ireland. It is one of the most important monastic sites
in Ireland. In the sixth century, St. Kevin founded a settlement in the valley, which over time became what is
known as the Monastic City. One of the main attractions in the valley is a round tower about 30 meters high,
built of slate alternating with granite. The tower has six floors connected by wooden stairs. The first four
floors are illuminated through a single small window, while the top floor is equipped with four windows facing
the four sides of the world. The tower was used as a bell tower and also served sometimes as a storehouse and
place of refuge during attacks.
Bunratty Castle is located in County Clare, in the center of the village of Bunratty, near the town of Shannon.
The castle was built in 1425 and is today the best preserved medieval fortress in Ireland. In the rooms of the
castle, fine furniture of the eighteenth and sixteenth centuries has been preserved, as well as ancient
tapestries. Around the castle there is a People's Park, which is an open-air museum. There are 30 buildings,
among which is the church of Ardkroni, which moved here from the village of Ardkroni and was reopened in 1998.
Trinity College is the oldest university in Ireland. It was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I. Alumni of
Trinity College included such famous writers as Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker, and Jonathan Swift. To see all the
interesting sites on the college campus, you can take a walking tour, the route of which begins at the entrance
to the Regent's House on College Green.
